Hello Monroe Families-
As we approach the end of the 1st semester, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support. It’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown! This is an excellent opportunity for you and your child to reflect on what has gone well this semester and identify areas for improvement. Middle school is a delicate balance of academic rigor and social development, and I am thankful that our staff excels in building strong relationships with our students.
For our Parent Site Council, we are currently discussing the book, The Anxious Generation, which explores the impact of technology and social media on our children's overall well-being. I highly recommend picking up a copy if you can; it serves as an important reminder of the effects these tools can have on our students today and for years to come. Thanks for your ongoing and steadfast support around this real and relevant issue.
Lastly, as we enter the final week of the semester, please ensure that all assignments are submitted and do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teachers for any support or questions.
Thank you and have a great weekend…GO MUSTANGS!
Welcome New Counselor: Meghan Holsapple is thrilled to join the Monroe team as your new school counselor! She has worked with middle school students for 2+ years as a school counselor in the surrounding area. She loves supporting students in this age group, being their cheerleader and helping them navigate through challenges. She looks forward to getting to know staff, students and families in the coming months as she will be working closely with Mrs. Tilson as she transitions to her new role to support your students (last name A-L). GO MUSTANGS!

BLAQ Youthful Soulful Stories: B.L.A.Q. Youth is proud to announce our inaugural story-time program, Soulful Stories which will be a series of interactive read-aloud events for youth in public spaces during the 2025 year.
Soulful Stories is a read-aloud session that celebrates literacy and culture. Youth and families are invited to join us on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Tsunami Books for an exciting read-aloud event featuring the book Patchwork Prince by a special guest reader!
Youth will be able to:
Engage in dialogue around the book content and themes
Create a craft connected to the storyline
Receive a copy of the book
Enjoy a healthy snack
Parents/guardians will receive a resource guide to support at home learning and literacy development to continue engagement with the book beyond the event.
We encourage parents/guardians to sign-up HERE in advance especially if they want to secure a copy of the book for their home libraries. We are also offering these events in a hybrid setting, for those who may not reside in Eugene proper but still want to access the activities and learning. Our organization is also able to provide "gas cards" for those wanting to attend but reside outside of city limits.

Exclusion from Activities: It is our practice that suspendable incidents and other similar behaviors can exclude students from participating in activities. In an effort to increase our communication around this, Administration will be in contact with you and your student a week before the event (the best we can) if they will be excluded due to behavioral concerns. In general, we give students a reset/restart at the mid-term, so that incidents from the beginning of the year do not impact activities throughout the year. However, Administrators do use their discretion in determining which students will need to be excluded.
Connect Content Next Week: lots of exciting things happening, check it out HERE!
Semester 2: we are closing in on the first half of the school year already! As we prepare for the transition to Semester 2, we would like to remind families of the schedule changes that will occur for students. There are specific situations where there will be no impact to the Health/PE portion of the schedule and/or it may not be relevant to your child.
ALL students will see a schedule change.
ALL students will receive a copy of their new schedule on Tuesday, February 4th in Connect class.
ALL students will change their PE/Health class to either a different PE teacher or into Health.
6th grade students who have Explore will change into a new Explore class.
Core classes (Math, Science, LA/SS) and year long classes will not change.
Semester elective classes will change.
We are accepting schedule change requests from Tuesday, February 4th through Friday, February 7th at 4:00PM. The link for the schedule change request will be sent in a separate email on Tuesday, February 4th.
As always, you can access your students' schedule in ParentVue.
Best,
