4/17 Monroe Fri-YAY
Dear Monroe Families,
Thank you for an encouraging and supportive week at Monroe. It’s been great to have positive experiences with students across campus, and yesterday’s track meet was a perfect example—our students showed great effort, sportsmanship, and Mustang pride throughout.
We are now in full planning mode for end-of-year events, and there is so much to look forward to as we celebrate our students and their growth this year. Upcoming opportunities include:
Our final Student of the Month Assembly of the year!
A variety of 8th grade events (Honor Roll Breakfast, Camp Harlow, Promotion, Sheldon field trip Student vs. staff flag football and basketball games)
Field Day for all!
Talent Show and more!
These events are not only fun, but also meaningful ways to honor student achievement, build community, and create lasting memories as we close out the year together.
As we move through the final quarter, it’s an important time for students to stay focused, finish strong, and continue building positive habits. Thank you for your steadfast support at home—encouraging your student to stay on-track, engaged, and connected truly makes a difference.
We also want to extend a big thank you to our Site Council for their thoughtful engagement this week, and to our MPO (Monroe Parent Organization) for partnering with us to support our staff—especially with the upcoming Teacher Appreciation Week lunch (see details below). We are grateful for a community that continues to show up in meaningful ways.
Enjoy the sunshine this weekend, and thank you for all you do to support Monroe- see below for key reminders…GO MUSTANGS!

8th Grade End of Year Events & Communication At-a-Glance: see HERE for up to date information about all things 8th grade. It’s a working document so please check it consistently and we’ll communicate directly if key dates change.
*Exclusion from Activities: It is our practice that suspendable incidents and other behaviors can exclude students from participating in activities- specifically Camp Harlow, the 8th Grade Dance, and Field Day. In an effort to increase our communication around this, Administration will be in contact with you and your student a week before the event (the best we can) if they will be excluded due to behavioral concerns. In general, we give students a reset/restart at the mid-term. However, Administrators do use their discretion in determining which students will need to be excluded.
8th grade Annual Permissions forms: 8th Grade Parents: If you received an email from our registrar, Sydney Bakos, about a missing permission slip for the walking trip to Sheldon, please send it as soon as possible. Starting next week, any students with missing permission slips will be sent home with the form to be filled out. Students can’t attend without one—thanks so much! Please email to bakos_s@4j.lane.edu or turn it into the front office.
State Testing May 4th-May 2st: This year, students will be completing their testing in their respective core classes. Please note that testing is not an all-day event. Students will only test during specific class periods. For example, science tests will take place during their science class period (only 8th grade), ELA tests during their ELA class period (all grades), and math tests during their math class period (all grades). Outside of these testing sessions, students will follow their normal daily schedule and participate in regular class activities. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Registrar and State Testing Coordinator Sydney Bakos, at bakos_s@4j.lane.edu or at 541-790-6323
