3/6 Monroe Fri-YAY
Dear Monroe Families,
Thank you for a wonderful week at Monroe! We wrapped it up with an amazing Band and Choir Concert, showcasing the talent, dedication, and hard work of our students and music staff. We also celebrated our Student of the Month Assembly, recognizing students for Compassion. The assembly was full of fun as well, including musical chairs and an epic game of “Stack the Boxes.” The 6th graders took home the Spirit Mustang this month thanks to their incredible chanting and rhythm as we wrapped up the assembly.
A special thank you to our Monroe families for your support of our staff during Classified Appreciation Week. The Café Yumm bar was a huge hit, and our staff truly felt supported, cared for, seen, and valued. We are grateful for such a thoughtful and generous community.
We do have a few important updates that we need your support reinforcing at home starting Monday. We will be banning the following items during the school day:
Squishies, fidgets, NeeDohs, stuffed animals, and other like-items.
While these items are not harmful on their own, they have become highly distracting and disruptive to learning. Our goal at school is to support academics, friendships, and meaningful connections among students. Unfortunately, these items have recently been getting in the way of those priorities and pulling students’ attention away from learning and positive interactions with peers.
Students will be asked to keep these items at home starting Monday. We will ask them to start by putting them in their lockers first thing Monday (if they have them present) and then at home following that. If the items continue to be brought to class, they may be confiscated and additional consequences may follow.
If your student needs access to fidgets for regulation or support, please connect with our school counselor or case managers so we can create or continue an appropriate plan for them. Additionally, we have spaces (Alternative Work Center, Counseling Offices) and items like the above for self-regulation.
See below for other relevant updates- have a great weekend…GO MUSTANGS!

8th grade families: This week I visited science classes to visit with all 8th grade students for a lesson on College & Careers. We looked at the differences between a job, career and trade. Students logged onto Xello and completed different questionnaires to match them with careers and explore salaries and demand across the country! It was so great to see kids so involved and thinking about their future. Next Monday, we will discuss the basics of high school - credits, transcripts, block schedules and more. ~Ms.Meghan, School Counselor
Learn to Ride a Bike: Do you or your child want to learn how to ride a bike? For those learning, start with balancing and gliding without pedals or training wheels. Some will learn to pedal in one session, while others may need more practice to reach that final goal. Join Safe Routes to School, the City of Springfield, the City of Eugene, Willamalane and Shift Community Cycles for this fun event with free bike checks. This event will take place inside the Bob Keefer Center on Tuesday, March 12, 5-7 p.m. Click here to Learn to Ride a Bike
