Monroe Summer Newsletter
Hello Monroe Families!
We hope you had a wonderful summer filled with fun, family, and some time to enjoy the great outdoors. Whether you traveled, relaxed, or soaked up the Oregon sunshine—we’re excited to welcome you back to another amazing school year at Monroe! As Mustangs, we’re proud of our strong Community, and we can't wait to build on that momentum with you this year.
For those that I have yet to meet, my name is Sun Saeteurn, and I’m honored to serve as the Principal of Monroe. I was born in Thailand and raised in Salem, and I'm a proud Duck for life! This is my 18th year in education, with the last 12 years as an Assistant Principal/Principal. I’m also a proud husband and father to three young kids- Henley & Nainoa twins (8) and Makai (5). Outside of school, I love being active in the Community—whether it's coaching sports teams, partnering with other parents and educators, or supporting local community initiatives, I’m deeply committed to helping every student grow and thrive, and find their place in this Community and beyond.
There is so much to look forward to: we’re welcoming some incredible new staff members, rolling out updated school wide expectations designed to help students stay focused, engaged, and continuing to strengthen our instructional practices across all content areas. We’re especially excited for all our new curricular materials for students and teachers- Math and Science (year 1) and Language Arts and Spanish Immersion (year 2). Additionally, there are academic supports students can access in a variety of ways during the school day. With nearly our entire teaching staff returning, students will benefit from consistency and care—and we’re once again offering amazing enrichment opportunities to help them grow and thrive to become MODEL Mustangs (Motivated, Optimistic, Determined, Equity-Minded, Leadership).
Monroe is a special place because of the people—our students, staff, and our families. This Community is truly something unique, and your involvement makes a big difference. Whether it’s volunteering, supporting school events, or collaborating with teachers and staff, we rely on our families to help shape a school where every student feels known, supported, and inspired. Thank you for being part of what makes Monroe so amazing. Let’s have a great year together, Mustangs!
