Good morning Monroe Families - 

At Monroe we have begun planning for state testing this spring! Please see a few of the details below: 

• Tests will be administered for 1 week with a unique testing bell schedule (attached/linked/screenshot below). 

• We will be on our testing bell schedule from Monday, May 5th - May 9th. 

• We will NOT have testing on Wednesday, May 7th - Wednesday will be a regular Wednesday bell schedule. 

• Students will test for the first 1.5 Hours of the day and then go through periods 1-7 and lunch. 

• We will resume our regular bell schedule the following week and work with individual students who need to finish or make up tests that were missed. 

• Please try your best to have your student at school on time so that we can begin testing shortly after 9am. 

Opt-Out Information:

If you wish to opt your child out of testing, please take note of the following important details:

• We highly encourage all opt out forms to be submitted by Friday, May 2nd.

• If you submit the opt out form during testing week (May 5th - May 9th) you MUST submit it to the front office before 9 AM. If forms are submitted after 9 AM during testing week, students will be expected to stay in their designated testing room for that day.

• Students opted out can stay home excused until 10:45 am when 1st period starts- please communicate with our front office (Nancy Ehlers ehlers_n@4j.lane.edu) if your student will be home until 1st period.  

• Opt-Out students who are here at 9am will be in the cafeteria working through the opt-out activity packet (LINK). Working through missing work first and then the provided activity. 

• Please note the opt-out form may be submitted any time prior to the close of the testing window (June 14th). If the student has already tested, the test will be invalidated; their test data will be removed from state data systems; and they will count as a non-participant for this year’s testing. Requests submitted after the final day of the test window cannot be honored. See below for district information. 

Parents, guardians, and adult students (age 18+) may opt out of OSAS Math and English Language Arts assessments. Click the links below to access the opt-out form. Please complete this form and give it to your school at least one week before testing begins.

Requesting a Testing Exemption (English Language Proficiency Assessment and/or Science)

Parents, guardians, and adult students may request an exemption from taking the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) or OSAS Science assessments. OAR 581-021-009 allows parents, guardians, or emancipated minors to request an exemption from testing based on a student’s disability or religion. Unlike the opt-out process for Math and ELA, requests for exemptions for all other tests must satisfy the following conditions:  

1. Be submitted in writing to the district (there is no standardized form)

2. Include reasons for request (disability of religion)

3. Propose an alternative learning activity for the student

4. Subject to district review and determination whether to approve

SEED Survey:

 There is a survey in addition to testing for students. The SEED Survey is a short, optional student survey designed to gather information about the educational experiences of students in Oregon. It gives ODE, districts, and schools access to student voice, data regarding local investments, and additional insight into other state and local data. • Purpose of the SEED Survey

  • Hear directly from students about their experiences

  • Provide Oregon districts with actionable data regarding investments used to increase student group outcomes

  • Better interpret state and local test results

  • Expand reporting beyond test scores

Other important things to note:

• There are listening items for the ELA test. If able, please have your student bring headphones. 

• Lunch will be later for every grade all week. If able, have students bring peanut free snacks. We will also provide snacks during the 15 minute break following testing.

• No Advisory/FLEX this week

• 6th and 7th graders will take two tests; Language Arts and Math

• 8th graders will take three tests; Language Arts, Math, and Science
