Hello Monroe Families-

I hope it’s been a great first week back from Spring Break! It was a wonderful sight to see the smiling faces and to hear about the various activities students were engaged in over the break. It’s much needed for everyone that there are built in breaks throughout the year as it’s a chance to refresh and prepare for the next chapter of the year and for us, that’s our busy Spring! This week is the start of a variety of activities and field trips that different classes are participating in-

  • All 6th grade students went to Mt. Pisgah this week for a hands-on field trip to explore native plant species in our region, the impact of colonialism in the Willamette Valley, and Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge!

  • Select 7th and 8th graders from Monroe and Cal Young are headed to the University of Oregon to participate in their annual Model United Nations event!

  • Our BSU will be headed to Oregon State University for a conference!

  • Our 7th grade Intermediate Band will participate in the annual Shasta Band Festival over in Bethel!

  • Lastly, all our 8th graders will take a school tour of Sheldon High School next week!

At Monroe we try balancing out the academic needs of our students with the unique enriching experiences that the area has to offer and we’re looking forward to future opportunities to enhance the Monroe experience throughout the years- thanks for your support in making this happen on many fronts!

New Monroe WebsiteWe're excited to announce the launch of our new website! Our new website seamlessly integrates with ParentSquare, the chosen platform for all family communications within 4J school district. This integration ensures that you'll have easy access to all the latest updates, announcements, and resources in one convenient location. We highly encourage all families to download the ParentSquare app (instructions attached). This app will be your go-to resource for receiving important communications and staying informed about school events and activities.

As we continue to update our new website please refer to our Mustang News Live document as a quick reference guide. This document contains all the essential information that was previously available on our Monroe website home page and in our Fri-Yay emails.

Coffee with the Principal, Tuesday April 9th 8:30 am: we’ll be meeting next week to engage in casual and informal conversations, ask questions, hear about the end of the year, etc. For those that attended the last meeting with a focus on race, harassment, procedures, etc. I’m working on a follow-up to the conversations and will be in communication soon!

8th Grade Events: Families of 8th grade students will receive a separate email with all end of the year events including Sheldon information, grad and panoramic picture day, promotion ceremony, dance and field trip to Camp Harlow. This information will also be on our Mustang News Live document.

Monroe Scholastic Book Fair: Monroes Spring book Fair is coming up! We will be hosting another Scholastic book-fair the week leading up to our annual Art in the Courtyard event from May 28th to 31st.

All that to say, we need your help! We could not do this book fair without the participation of parents who are willing to set aside time to make it happen. In order to make the book fair happen, we are looking to fill a few key roles:

  • Communication & Marketing: Do you like making posters and helping people be informed? This could be the role for you!

  • Setup Coordinator: If you are the kind of person who decorates for every holiday and the term aesthetic is in your normal vocabulary, this is the role for you.

  • Shift Leads: It takes a large village to run these book fairs. We need at least three people who are willing to lead staffing for the book fair. If you have a go to list of 3 or more friends that you like to volunteer with this role maybe for you!

  • Fun Coordinator: If you like to think through details that make simple gatherings feel like an event we need you on our team!

The hope is that this is a collaborative project, by claiming a role you are deciding to be part of a team and not just expected to do everything yourself! Please reach out if you have any interest in helping out!
