Hello Monroe Families-

As we wrap up the first semester of the school year, I hope it has been a positive and enriching experience for your students. We are excited about the opportunities, growth, and experiences that the next semester will bring. Our team is here to help and support all students and families along the way.

I encourage you to consider some important questions as a parent or guardian as we hit the halfway mark to support your students overall well-being: Are there routines in place to check on your child's schoolwork? Is your student getting exercise? Are they engaged in after-school activities or extracurriculars? Are they spending time with positive peers? Lastly, do you know what they are doing on their phones and social media? These questions are meant to be supportive of you, your child, and the system as a whole as your involvement is key to their success, and we appreciate your partnership as part of this long and complex journey!

As I was reflecting on the semester I came across quotes that encapsulate and encompass our students, staff, and community. I hope you're encouraged and inspired as we head into a long week and prepare for the second half of the year!

Monroe Community:

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." – Helen Keller

“A community is like a ship; everyone ought to be prepared to take the helm." – Henrik Ibsen

"It takes a village to raise a child." – African Proverb

Our students and learning:

"The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you." – B.B. King

"Students are the architects of their own futures; with each lesson, they build their dreams." – Unknown

“Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or in the same way." – George Evans

Our Educators:

"It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." – Albert Einstein

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." – Nelson Mandela

"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops." – Henry Adams

"Teaching is the one profession that creates all other professions." – Unknown

"The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but don’t tell you what to see." – Alexandra K. Trenfor

Have a wonderful long weekend…GO MUSTANGS!

2 hr delay schedule: there is a chance of impactful weather next week. There will be clear communication district-wide if we have to cancel school or have a 2 hour delay due to weather. If we do have a 2 hr delay, the bell schedule is HERE. Doors will open at 10:35 for those wanting breakfast.

No School: January 31st - grading day and February 3rd - transition day

Counselor Appreciation Week: next week is Counselor Appreciation Week. Elizabeth Johnson “EJ” and Meghan Holsapple play an invaluable role in our schools, and it truly warms our hearts. Their support enables us to help students grow socially and emotionally, guiding them as they navigate their unique journeys of self-discovery.

We are incredibly grateful for their commitment to the important work of education and Counseling. By supporting not only the staff and students but also their families, they create an environment where everyone can thrive. They are caring, empathetic and above all else, advocates and we are so thankful for them! As parents, write them a kind email or fill out a Mustang Shout Out the next time you’re on campus!

School Supply Restock: With Semester 2 underway, it’s a great time to check in with your student about their school supplies! We’ve noticed many students with broken or missing binders and other essentials. Making sure they’re fully stocked can help set them up for success.

If you’d like to support our classrooms, we’re currently accepting donations of 8.5 x 11 copy paper and Kleenex. Thank you for helping us keep our students and classrooms ready for learning!

Winter Activity Night: mark your calendars! Winter Activity Night is on Friday, February 7th, 6:30-8:00pm! Games, photo booth, dancing & activities!

Exclusion from Activities: It is our practice that suspendable incidents and other similar behaviors can exclude students from participating in activities. In an effort to increase our communication around this, Administration will be in contact with you and your student a week before the event (the best we can) if they will be excluded due to behavioral concerns. In general, we give students a reset/restart at the mid-term, so that incidents from the beginning of the year do not impact activities throughout the year. However, Administrators do use their discretion in determining which students will need to be excluded.

Connect Content Next Week: lots of exciting things happening, check it out HERE!

Semester 2: we are closing in on the first half of the school year already! As we prepare for the transition to Semester 2, we would like to remind families of the schedule changes that will occur for students. There are specific situations where there will be no impact to the Health/PE portion of the schedule and/or it may not be relevant to your child.

  • ALL students will see a schedule change.

  • ALL students will receive a copy of their new schedule on Tuesday, February 4th in Connect class.

  • ALL students will change their PE/Health class to either a different PE teacher or into Health.

  • 6th grade students who have Explore will change into a new Explore class.

  • Core classes (Math, Science, LA/SS) and year long classes will not change.

  • Semester elective classes will change.

  • We are accepting schedule change requests from Tuesday, February 4th through Friday, February 7th at 4:00PM. The link for the schedule change request will be sent in a separate email on Tuesday, February 4th no later than 9:00 AM.

As always, you can access your students' schedule in ParentVue. Semester 2 should now be visible to families.

Best,
